Wrote and reported stories
I am an award-winning journalist with nearly a decade of experience in public radio. I have written and produced stories in various formats including breaking news and long-form narrative. I currently lead the podcast Seattle Now, and I was the lead producer of both Second Wave and Battle Tactics For Your Sexist Workplace.

I take pride in my ability to communicate complicated ideas clearly and express the breadth of human emotion. I have produced a daily news podcast for nearly three years in the midst of a global pandemic, and stories that can bring joy to our listeners are not only some of my favorite to produce, but ones that I believe are essential.

If I were to recommend one of my stories, start here.

Humor is also a defining feature of my storytelling. I created Seattle Now's Friday show "Casual Friday" with the goal of informing and entertaining listeners with a lively and humorous conversation of the week's local news. It is Seattle Now's most-downloaded episode most weeks. I also write satirical news stories for Seattle-based humor site The Needling. This is my favorite.

I received training in design thinking from PRX in January of 2017. Ever since then, I have taken a human-centered approach to my work and I have deepened this approach since enrolling in UW's HCDE masters program.

I believe my skills as a storyteller have prepared me to be an effective user researcher. I know how to distill the most important learnings from a mountain of data, I can manage the complicated logistics of a research project, I am an experienced interviewer and I know how to select salient quotes and anecdotes from research and use them to make the case for a particular user need.
